Professionalization Course in Rabka

This widely-circulated photo first appeared, with captions that allow the identifications of these figures, in the Bais Yaakov Journal 46 (1929), 16. The accompanying story describes Rabka as the most beautiful and popular spa and resort town in Poland, with healing mineral springs, fresh mountain breezes, magnificent vistas, thick woods with hiking trails, promenades, carriage rides, and a park in which a military orchestra held concerts twice a day. Jews were prominent in the town’s tourism industry, and the town had a synagogue and mikva. Bais Yaakov occupied two large buildings just outside town, on a wooded mountaintop. See Eliezer Gershon Friedenson, ‘Pictures and Notes from My Visit to Rabka’ (Yid.), Bais Yaakov Journal, 46 (1929), 16-17.
